Air Conditioning Tips
January is seeing some soaring temperatures, and ensuring air conditioning units all over the country are getting a workout. So here are some tips to keep your air conditioner in tip top shape.
1. Filter maintenance
Filters do as they say; they filter the air that is blown into the home. Filters should be cleaned every couple of months by vacuuming or gently washing. They should also be replaced as required. Dirty filters can have negative health impacts and reduce the efficiency of the unit.
2. Keep it clean
Cleaning the unit itself is also important. Use a damp cloth to remove dust and ensure air grilles and vents are not clogged. If your unit has removable panels, take them outside and thoroughly clean them. If you have a ducted system, cleaning the vents will make sure they aren’t blowing dust through your home.
3. Keep it clear
Make sure the air conditioning vents aren’t obstructed by anything. Furniture, curtains and various other obstacles can prevent the unit from working efficiently and effectively. Don’t forget to make sure the outside portion of the unit isn’t blocked in any way either. A blockage or build up of debris can force the compressor to work harder and increase running costs.
Air conditioning units can benefit from professionals who know exactly what they’re doing. Regular servicing will keep your unit running to the best of its ability for as long as possible. Ideally, every two years and prior to peak air conditioning season is the best time to service.
