SOUTHERN STAR WINDOWS has won Business of the Year at a gala evening to celebrate the Geelong Advertiser Business Excellence Awards held at The Pier on 18 July. 2012 is a milestone year for Southern Star Windows with the business celebrating 10 years of operation.
The BUSINESS OF THE YEAR award win was fitting acknowledgement of the hard work and commitment that has been demonstrated by the company’s directors and management team as they have built the business over those 10 years into one of Australia’s largest and most successful aluminium and timber window and door manufacturers. The win was reported in a special Awards feature of the Geelong Advertiser on 26 July.

The winner of the Geelong Advertiser Business of the Year began as a small city-based firm with a national vision. After buying out Geelong Windows and inheriting its 20 staff in 2002, the new local owners re-badged the company Southern Star Windows as they eyed expansion across the eastern seaboard.
A decade later, the enterprise is now spread across four states and employs 429 people across research, product development, manufacturing and distribution platforms. Throughout its impressive growth, the aluminium and timber window and door systems maker has not forgotten its roots and maintains its primary base in Geelong.
Southern Star Windows was rewarded for its ingenuity and success by being crowned the Business of the Year at the Geelong Advertiser Business Excellence Awards last week. After finishing runner- up for the top gong in 2011, Managing Director, Paul Gray, and his staff were very happy to receive the award.
Mr Gray labeled the award as significant, believing the extra exposure and increased profile would be highly beneficial in a region that likes to support locals.
‘‘It’s a significant thing for us,’’ Mr Gray said. ‘‘It is acknowledgement of our work over a number of years, that is the nice part of it.’’
The company has expanded into Melbourne and regional Victoria, while spreading its wings with branches in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane. Key acquisitions have also seen it add Canterbury Windows and Doors, Homeview Windows and Doors and Southern Star Glass to its brand base.
