Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal
The Southern Star Group is a proud supporter of The Salvation Army and was a major contributor to the 2015 flagship Red Shield Appeal that this year focused on a campaign to End Homelessness Now.
Homelessness is a significant issue in Australia with 105,000 Australians homeless every night. This figure includes 44,000 young people under the age of 25 that do not have a safe and secure place to live.
The prevention of homelessness is a large emphasis of the Salvation Army’s activity; believing that “by assisting people before they reach crisis and find themselves with nowhere to go, we are helping to end homelessness.”
As in previous years, the Salvation Army has been the beneficiary of the Southern Star Group’s assistance and significant contribution was made by the Group this year to aide The Salvation Army in their mission to provide support and assistance to those in need.
Donations to the Red Shield Appeal not only help The Salvation Army assist thousands of people currently affected by homelessness every week, but also provide hundreds of services and programs that aim to support people before they become homeless.
In addition to providing around 2,000 people with accommodation every week The Salvation Army is also working with thousands of people who are at extreme risk of becoming homeless, to stop it becoming a reality for them.
